Winter has a way of transforming the world into a wonderland, and there’s no better way to experience this seasonal magic than with a torch-lit hike through Wisconsin’s stunning state parks. Here at Valley Springs Farm Bed & Breakfast, we invite you to embark on a winter adventure that combines the serene beauty of nature with the cozy charm of community gatherings. Join us for two of the best state park candlelight winter hikes that will leave you enchanted and energized.
Mirror Lake State Park: A Winter Evening of Fun and Adventure
Nestled in the heart of Wisconsin, Mirror Lake State Park is the perfect destination for a winter escapade. On January 4, 2025 6:00-8:00 PM, the Winter Recreation/Picnic Area will come alive with the glow of torches, guiding you through a picturesque 1-mile trail designed for hikers and snowshoers. For those who prefer to glide through the snow, there’s also a 1-mile trail dedicated to skiers. And for families with young adventurers, sleds are welcome on the hiking and snowshoeing trail, ensuring that everyone can join in the fun.
As you navigate the torch-lit paths, the crisp winter air will invigorate your senses. But the excitement doesn’t end on the trails. After your hike or ski, you can gather around the roaring bonfires, where the warmth of the flames and the camaraderie of fellow adventurers create an unforgettable atmosphere. Treat yourself to delicious goodies and steaming hot chocolate, generously provided by the Friends of Mirror Lake State Park. It’s the perfect way to recharge and relish the moment.
Remember, vehicles are required to have a valid admission pass to enter the park. The park office will be open throughout the event, allowing you to purchase your pass on-site. To save time and skip the line, consider purchasing your pass online in advance. Please note that pets are not allowed at this event, ensuring a peaceful and safe experience for all participants.
Friends of Devil’s Lake December Torchlit Hike: A Festive Night to Remember
Just a short drive from Valley Springs Farm Bed & Breakfast, Devil’s Lake State Park offers another enchanting winter adventure. On Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., join the Friends of Devil’s Lake for the first of their seasonal torchlit hikes. This event promises to be a delightful evening filled with music, warmth, and the beauty of nature.
The hike will take place at the Rock Elm Shelter (North Shore), near the North Shore Boat Launch. As you stroll along the torchlit paths, you’ll be greeted by the soothing sounds of Campfire Kevin, a local musician known for his captivating campfire performances. His music will set the perfect backdrop for a night of exploration and reflection.
The torchlit hike offers a unique way to experience the park’s natural beauty, with the soft glow of torches illuminating the snow-covered landscape. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or simply looking for a peaceful winter walk, this event caters to all skill levels. As you make your way through the trails, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with fellow hikers and share in the joy of the season.
First Day Hike: Start the New Year with Nature

On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., join us for a refreshing 1.5-mile round trip through the woods to the lake and back. This hike begins at the CCC parking lot, near the Group Camp on South Lake Road in Merrimac, WI.
